If you're anything like me, there have been days that roll by and you just don't know where the time went. Or you feel like there just isn't enough time in one day to get things done.
Last weekend I was listening to "Marriage More", a podcast created by Jeff and Mandy Rose. They were interviewing Hal Elrod and he was discussing his book Miracle Morning. I was instantly interested because if I can find somethng to maximize my time and make me more productive I'm there. Anyone that knows me knows that I am a thinker: I organize and prioritze things, but there are still times that I struggle to finish everything I need to do in one day. So, after hearing the interview, I was determined to do a "miracle morning" challenge.
My sister and I are extremely close, so as soon as I finished listening to the podcast, I called her and suggested that we buy the book and wake up one hour earlier for 30 days. She didn’t like that idea, so we compromised and decided to do it for 21 days (that’s how many days it takes to develop a habit).
What is a “miracle morning”? Well, I’m glad you asked. :-) It's a process that helps you establish a morning routine that will help you be more successful throughout your day. You wake up earlier than usual and you go through steps that are listed in the book to improve YOURSELF. As we all know, we have to invest in ourselves in order to see growth…and that goes for any area in our lives. Once you get the book, you can tailor your morning to your own life to maximize your day.
Now, granted, I have only been doing this for three days, but it has already helped me a ton. I have a VERY busy schedule in the afternoons because I have two boys (ages 13 and 9) and they keep me BUSY. My oldest is currently playing football and baseball, I cook, clean, and have to make sure my youngest son gets his homework done-- all before we leave for baseball practice. On top of that, I'm also writing a novel. So, to say I need to maximize my time, is an understatement. I get up earlier and do some writing after my morning Bible study versus waiting until late in the evening. And one morning, I was able to squeeze in my workout. AND one of the best things about this challenge is that I go to bed earlier.
We all have the same amount of hours in our day. It's how we utilize them that determines the direction of our lives. Isn't awesome that making small adjustments in our daily schedule can add a lot of value to our entire lives? If you think about it, the most successful person in the world and the most lazy person in the world have the same amount of time in a day. The difference in their accomplishments is all based on how they choose to spend their time. If success is at all of our fingertips, we should all go out there and grab it...one day at a time.
